WAITING

Waiting

I wait on God with the same anticipation as waiting for the return of Summer. I look forward to Summers arrival and God’s answer to my prayers, knowing both will arrive right on time!

Waiting is our destiny as creatures who cannot by themselves, bring about what they hope for…… Lewis Smedes

Profound! Let’s be honest, no ones likes to wait. The thought occurred to me this evening. We pray for various things and most of them are likely material. When I wrote these thoughts in my journal some years ago, I was waiting for my heart to heal from emotional, not physical hurt. As I read the quote by Lewis Smedes and the one below by Ben Patterson, it was 2016. I then noticed the journal entries were entries from 8 years prior to that. We continue to wait on things we think we want.

Tonight I write this it is 7 years farther down the road. I realized God is working in me and in the lives of others while I am waiting on Him to answer. There are things I must learn in order to grow. God may be working on the last prayer you prayed or way ahead of you on the next one you’re going to pray. Give Him time.

Do Not allow the pain to eat you up, put it to work by using it to grow. It seems I have been growing my whole life, and really that is what we’re here for. Don’t become weary of growing pains, eventually you will look back as I have and give thanks. Thanks for the wisdom of al you have learned and the benefit of what you considered “unanswered prayers”. You may not haven gotten many of the things you asked for, but you got what you needed. God always answers: Yes, Wait and sometimes, you got it, the answer is going to be No.

What God does in us while we wait is just as important as what we are waiting for. Ben Patterson

And as a last note from personal experience, do not, I repeat DO NOT pray for patience unless you are ready for a workout. I have a great deal of patience, but patience is not something that God simply bestows on you the way a Queen bestows someone into Knighthood. Patience came to me at a price much higher than I expected to pay.

My former Pastor suggested we be specific when we pray. Now being 50, he said if he’d realized when he prayed as a younger man that 50 wasn’t very old, He would have increased the number of years in his prayer until he was at least 100.
