I read once, the more storms you face, the better sailor you become. Storms don’t last forever, although when you are the one in the midst of a storm it feels as though it will never be over. A storm can appear at a moment’s notice, this is true in nature as well as in our lives. While some storms are beyond our control, many of these disasters may come from our own stubbornness, not taking the best path, or making the wrong choices. You can’t take the credit for the good things in your life and blame God for the bad.
There are times when the option to travel around the storm is not there and it is safer for you to travel through the storm. This does not always guarantee your safety. You could still be harmed or face death
Each of us are given life. Our journey may be a little or possibly a lot different, from someone else’s. Our lessons are designed according to the way our Creator chose them for us, in order to help us grow and reach our potential.
Difficulties can sometimes be so disastrous they knock you down for quite some time; but situations like that can also give you reason to rethink your choices and your future. I’d imagine most of us, me included, would have chosen a life that daily served up a plate of sunshine with a side of yellow roses, followed by a slice or two of green grass that did not wither and fade in the winter. Throw in a pot of gold at the end of each rainbow and we’d likely still have something to complain about.
A child may not grow strong if they are getting only what they want, and less of what they need. The same is true in life for us as adults. I can’t say that I enjoy difficulties, although I can promise you I’ve had at least my share, and it often felt as though I was carrying the load for someone else as well.
When the storms have cleared, you might find yourself helping new sailors in your future, perhaps near the end of your life, however long that may be. You might also find yourself a better person than the one you began your journey as, in spite of, and perhaps due to, the difficulties.
As for me, the sky has cleared and sunshine is shining through, life is good, but there will always be stormy days. I know I cannot navigate life and the storms that come with it, alone, nor do I want to….it’s knowing God is in the Captain’s chair, as He should be, & if I am listening to His voice, as I should be, He will be guiding me, and I will end up where I am meant to be…. And so will you.
