How do you celebrate the birth of a King? Is there a right way or a wrong way? I suppose that answer lies in the opinion of the one whose birthday we are celebrating.
Recently, I was privy to a conversation where someone was asked what religion they were. The statement that followed was something to the effect that they did not believe “some man” died to save the world. My heart hurt for Christ, as He died for that someone also. She celebrates Christmas however, she simply chooses not to celebrate Christ.
When asked what religion she claimed to be, it was remarked she was Wicca, and one of her children claimed to be Buddha. The choice for this religion was in order for the daughter to get a C-19 waiver to keep her job. Well, that sure made the hair on the back of my neck tingle. She stated “her” children were going to choose their own way, and not have a parents “religion” forced on them. Her children are not being taught at home, simply choosing whatever they thought would fit them best. Wow!
I really didn’t know what to say, as I was a bystander to this conversation. There seems to be a lot of this thinking going around. So many young people have no guidance as they are growing and discovering the world. There are getting help from those just as confused as themselves, not seeking guidance from someone with wisdom.
Fast forward to a few weeks before Christmas. I see anxiety, intermingled with joy, lights twinkling, and flashing, everywhere I go. Everyone is celebrating decorations. How did we get from a simple manger without the bells and whistles to the madness that we now call Christmas? Is this what Jesus wants for His birthday? I’d say “No”. I think He agrees.
